Currency Used in Czech Republic

Czech koruna banknotes and coins for travelers in Prague, Czech Republic

Although the Czech Republic is part of the European Union, it does not use the euro. It still uses its own national currency, called the Czech koruna, or Czech crown.

Exchanging money

The Czech Republic uses the koruna (CZK), also known as the Czech crown. In Thailand, you can't exchange Czech crowns, so we recommend withdrawing cash from an ATM instead, for example with SCB, where the fee is 100 THB per withdrawal. You can check the approximate exchange rate on this website

Where should you withdraw money? The exchange rate doesn't change much from day to day.

(We recommend withdrawing money at Czech bank ATMs so you don't pay high fees... and we stress, bank ATMs!)

Some Thai travelers bring euros to exchange in Prague, but many people warn that most exchange offices in Prague are tricky. They display an exchange rate in front of the shop that looks fair, but when you exchange, extra commission is deducted. Some people have lost almost 20%. If you want to buy something expensive, pay by card. But before you travel, we recommend calling your credit card company's call center to let them know you will be using your card abroad, and also check the fees with your card issuer beforehand.
