Here's a quick update on the Schilthornbahn construction, everyone! Travelers heading up to Schilthorn lately have noticed a new station being built on the Stechelberg side. It's the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project. If you go on a rainy or cloudy day, you may not see it clearly, but you will certainly walk past it. They are building the steepest cable car on the Stechelberg - M?rren - Birg - Schilthorn route, and the best part is that it will be open 365 days a year!!

Here is the basic information about the new cable car:
The cable car runs in 3 sections: Stechelberg - Murren - Birg - Schilthorn (normally it's 4 sections. What's missing?? The answer: Gimmelwald)
The distance is reduced from 6,935 m to 5,685 m (-18%)
The travel time (Stechelberg - Schilthorn) is reduced from 32 minutes to 22 minutes
It carries 800 people per hour and is accessible, so wheelchairs can go up too
There is a container hanging along with the cabin to carry large bags, so you don't need to take luggage inside the cable car
The Shilthorn will now be accessible 365 days a year!!!!

However, because of the construction, Schilthorn will have to close from late 2024 to March 2025.

Milestones in an overview:

Opening direct connection Stechelberg - Murren: November 2024
Opening of the route M?rren - Birg : December 2024
Opening of the route Birg - Schilthorn: March 2025 (The Schilthorn will be closed between October 2024 and March 2025!)
Finalization of the entire project: 2026
