This trip leaves Tromsø early in the morning, with a drive of about 90 minutes to a husky camp in the Skibotn Valley. On arrival, you will be given a full set of warm clothing, help the coordinator prepare the dogs, and receive detailed driving instructions before setting off. Each sled is pulled by 4-6 huskies and shared by two people. One stands at the back to drive while the other sits in the sled, and you swap halfway so both of you get to drive.

The route is about 10-15 km long depending on snow conditions, winding through pine forest and snowy fields, with mountain views all around as far as the Lyngen Alps and photo stops along the way. The difficulty is moderate. Drivers need to keep their balance on the sled and occasionally help the dogs, so it suits those who really want to do it themselves, whether couples or families with children aged 5 and over.

From December to early January, the sky is dark for almost the whole day, so the sled ride may take place in dim light. The camp provides headlamps when needed. We recommend wearing wool base layers, bringing spare wool socks, a buff scarf, and sunglasses or ski goggles. Our team can check availability and book the departure for you.

Highlights

  • Drive a team of 4-6 huskies yourself, taking turns as a pair
  • About 60 minutes on the sled, covering 10-15 km
  • Views of snowy pine forest and the Lyngen Alps
  • Reindeer soup, fresh bread, coffee and tea
  • Warm clothing, boots and gloves provided
