Take a 2.5-hour cruise aboard the restored 1917 wooden boat Hermes II through Tromsøysundet strait, scenic fjords, and islands around Tromsø. Take in the views from the deck or explore inside the vessel. Available year-round.
The owner narrates in both Norwegian and English, covering the boat's history, passing landmarks, and the German battleship Tirpitz sunk off Tromsø during World War II. You have great chances of spotting white-tailed eagles and seabirds, and occasionally seals or reindeer along the shore. A warm fish cake is served with coffee and tea along the way; snacks and soft drinks are available for purchase onboard (outside food is not permitted).
Thermal suits, blankets, and a heated cabin are available onboard, but please arrive dressed warmly with a hat, gloves, and warm boots. Wildlife sightings are natural and cannot be guaranteed, and are less frequent during the polar night. Trips may be rescheduled or canceled in severe weather. Departure times vary by date.
