This walking tour is operated by Tromsø Budget Tours with a local guide, following the original city boundaries established in 1794 (B.E. 2337), from Strandtorget square in the south to Skansen in the north. People lived here for centuries before it gained town status, and your guide will share how Tromsø evolved, especially over the past 230 years.
Along the route, you'll see historic sites, statues, busts, and murals of prominent figures who shaped the city—from renowned polar explorer Roald Amundsen to local legends like Wanny Woldstad and Henry Rudi. The tour includes admission and a guided visit to the Polar Museum to delve into Tromsø's polar heritage, concluding at one of the town's oldest historic establishments reflecting its seafaring traditions.
The tour runs every Wednesday at 10:30 and Saturday at 15:00, lasting about 2.5 hours. Rated easy, it is a small-group experience for 4-15 participants (typically around 4-8). Conducted mainly in English (other languages on prior request), it operates year-round. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
