When there's no snow, hiking with huskies is the most fun way to get close to these dogs. A vehicle takes you from Tromsø about 25-35 minutes to Tromsø Villmarkssenter, and then you set off on a walk of about 1.5-2 hours with our Coordinator. Huskies are strong and love to pull, so two people usually go together to hold one dog.
Along the way, the Coordinator will tell you about the dogs' daily life at the center. After the hike, you'll visit the puppy pen, home to the next generation of sled dogs. Before heading back, you'll rest in a traditional gamme and enjoy a lunch cooked on site by the fire: bacalao, a Norwegian fish dish. Vegetarian meals are available on request. The meal ends with coffee or tea and chocolate cake.
The difficulty level is moderate. We recommend it for children aged 6 and over because there is quite a lot of walking, and children must be supervised by an adult. Rain gear and rubber boots are available to borrow, but you should still dress for the weather on the day. The vehicle does not wait for latecomers, so please arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes early.
