An aurora hunting trip operated by Marianne's Heaven on Earth Aurora Chaser Tours, where both the owner and coordinators are professional photographers. Available from Sep to Mar, departing at 18:00 from outside Smørtorget café in central Tromsø. The tour accommodates 2-16 people per departure but splits into no more than 8 people per vehicle, allowing you to venture off the crowded tourist routes.
The team monitors live aurora oval and geomagnetic field data, consults with weather forecasters until midnight, and coordinates with other groups via radio. The route may lead to western coastal islands, north, south, or eastward into Finland or Sweden by 4x4 vehicle. Throughout the night, enjoy a night photography workshop complete with tripods and remotes or cable releases for most DSLR cameras, along with hot drinks and a hot meal (soup or sausages), sometimes cooked over a campfire.
Thermal suits, hats, gloves, winter boots, heat packs, ice grips, reflective vests, and headlamps are provided. Please bring your passport and dress in Arctic-ready winter layers. Cameras are not included on this trip; if you would like photos taken during the tour, you can purchase a memory card by informing the coordinator at the start. Please let us know in advance if you have dog hair allergies or require vegetarian meals. Minimum age is 16 years. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon subject to weather conditions and cannot be guaranteed. Our team is happy to check availability and book for you.
