This page features the single departure for the New Year package on Senja island by Basecamp Senja, departing December 29, 2026, and returning to Tromsø on January 2, 2027. The itinerary is identical to the main package. This trip accommodates groups of 2–10 people, ages 12 and up, easy activity level, with guides and hosts speaking English and Norwegian. On Day 1, board a large vessel with a heated cabin starting at 08:00 in central Tromsø, sailing north toward Skjervøy where humpback and killer whales have gathered to feed on herring in the fjords in recent years. The boat returns to the city by 17:00, followed at 18:00 by an approximate 3-hour taxi transfer to Skaland village, staying at Posthuset Expedition Lodge or Bedehuset, located about 200 meters apart.
On December 30, explore viewpoints along the Norwegian Scenic Route Senja on the outer coast of the island, followed by evening northern lights chasing. On December 31, New Year's Eve, cruise among islands in Bergsfjorden aboard an open RIB boat, with chances to spot white-tailed sea eagles and seals (warm flotation suits provided). That evening, enjoy a New Year's Eve dinner and gather around a coastal campfire. On New Year's Day, January 1, 2027, take an approximate 45-minute drive to the husky farm at Ottemoen, home to around 35 dogs. The activity takes about 3 hours including gear fitting and greeting the dogs. On January 2, depart accommodation at 09:30 to board the Hurtigruten or Havila ship at Finnsnes at 11:30, arriving in Tromsø at 14:15. The activity order may shift depending on wind and weather.
The package includes 4 nights of accommodation, almost all meals featuring northern Norwegian home cooking, coffee, tea, cakes, and fruit during breaks, 2–3 lectures, and scheduled transfers. Not included are meals aboard the whale-watching boat and boat tickets from Finnsnes back to Tromsø, which must be booked separately. Please come prepared with Arctic winter clothing. After booking, the operator will send a packing list and day-by-day itinerary. Whales and northern lights are natural phenomena and cannot be guaranteed.
