This Northern Lights chase by Arctic Circle Tours operates from September through April. Meeting time is 17:45 with departure at 18:00 from Ami Hotel in Tromsø. Group size is limited to 15 guests. The tour typically runs in a minibus with both a driver and a coordinator; groups of 7 or fewer may use a minivan where the driver also serves as coordinator. The vehicle is equipped with Wi-Fi and a sky camera that displays on screens inside throughout the journey, helping the coordinator monitor aurora activity and locate safe viewing spots.
Your coordinator tracks weather forecasts, clouds, and Northern Lights activity throughout the night, adjusting the route which may reach as far as Finland. During the night, warm food from local producer Real Turmat, snacks, and hot beverages are served, with vegetarian and vegan options available. When weather permits, a campfire is made to grill sausages and marshmallows. Your coordinator shares aurora legends, lends camera and phone tripods, assists with camera settings, and sends full-resolution portraits and landscape photos when conditions allow.
Everyone must carry a passport because the trip may cross into Finland. You should prepare a warm hat, gloves, thermal underwear, and a camera or phone; thermal suits, boots, and ice cleats are available to borrow. If the forecast at the meeting point is very poor, you can choose to cancel for a full refund, and if you do not see the Northern Lights on your first trip, the operator offers a new tour at half price subject to availability.
