One experience many northern lights hunters dream of is lying in a warm bed and watching the sky. A vehicle leaves Tromsø in the late morning, and a short ferry ride across the fjord takes you to Aurora Wonderland Basecamp in Lyngen, far from the city with very little light pollution, ideal for sky watching.
When you arrive, you'll have freshly made fish soup, then set out on a walk of about 2 km with a Coordinator, on foot or in snowshoes depending on the conditions. After dinner, the Coordinator will update you on the northern lights forecast and light the wood stove in the lavvu. You'll sleep the night in a warm glass-roofed tent, and with luck you may see the northern lights flare up several times in one night.
The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and can't be guaranteed, but staying outside the city gives you more time to watch all night long. It suits couples, honeymoon trips and photographers. Groups are limited to 12 people. Accommodation is limited, so please have our team book in advance.
