An evening trip by Arctic Glow departs from Kirkegata 2 in central Tromsø by Mercedes Sprinter minibus for up to 19 people. A local coordinator from Northern Norway and a driver experienced with winter roads choose the route based on that night's weather forecast, cloud cover, and aurora activity—potentially along the coast, into inland valleys, or crossing borders into Finland or Sweden.
Along the way, the tour stops periodically to check the sky. The coordinator shares stories of Arctic Norwegian life and explains how the Northern Lights occur. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, blackcurrant juice, Norwegian snacks, and homemade cake are provided. Whenever you get cold, you can step back inside the heated vehicle. When the Northern Lights appear, the coordinator takes portraits for anyone interested, alongside photos of the aurora and scenery throughout the night, edited and sent after the trip at no extra charge.
A passport or ID card must be brought along as borders may be crossed. Dress in warm layers with thermal underwear, a winter coat, hat, gloves, and winter boots. Winter suits are available to borrow. Some parts involve short walks on snow or ice. There is no luggage storage, and alcohol is not permitted. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon dependent on weather conditions and cannot be guaranteed. Our team can check availability and handle bookings for you.
