From November to January, the fjords north of Tromsø are busy with orcas, humpback whales and fin whales following the herring. This trip uses MS Sylvkallen, a 17-meter boat and the smallest one running whale trips daily from Tromsø. It feels close to nature, yet has 2 warm seating rooms for a break.
The journey takes about 2.5 hours each way through a variety of waters, including crossing Lyngenfjord. On the way you can enjoy mountains, fjords and the light of the polar night. When whales are found, the boat slows down and takes its time, with no rush. Tea, coffee, biscuits and a light soup are served on the way back. It suits families with children aged 4 and over, nature lovers and photographers.
The boat departs early in the morning and the trip takes almost the whole day. Wear windproof and waterproof clothing, bring a water bottle and extra snacks, and be able to keep your balance on a boat that may rock a little. Whales are wild animals, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. Our team can book it for you.
