An evening trip that combines three things: reindeer, Sami culture and a chance to see the northern lights. A vehicle leaves Tromsø at 6:00 p.m. for a camp in the wilderness. You'll walk among a herd of about 300 reindeer, feed them and hear about reindeer herding.

Then you'll step into a warm, candlelit lavvu and enjoy bidos, a Sami-style reindeer stew, with Sami bread and hot drinks, followed by chocolate cake and a blueberry dessert. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available. Your host will share stories of the reindeer herders' way of life and sing joik for you.

If the sky is clear and conditions are right, you may be able to step outside and watch the northern lights from the camp. However, the northern lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed, so think of them as a bonus. This trip suits couples and families who want a cozy evening without long walks. Wear at least two warm layers, a hat, gloves and insulated boots.
