An evening trip available exclusively in October, operated by Tromsø Lapland. The bus departs from Tromsø at 6:00 PM and takes around 50 minutes to reach a reindeer camp surrounded by mountains. Here, there is a herd of more than 120 reindeer where you can feed them, see them up close, and take photos.
Then head inside a lavvu, a traditional Sámi tent. A Sámi coordinator shares stories about their culture, traditions, life with reindeer, and how these practices are maintained today. Dinner is bidos, a traditional reindeer stew with potatoes and carrots, with a Norwegian vegetable soup available as a vegan, gluten-free option. The camp is located far from city lights, so if the weather is clear and the aurora is active, you might see the Northern Lights that night.
Activity level is very easy. Wear warm clothing and bring your camera. The camp terrain is uneven, so guests with mobility difficulties should inform us in advance. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon that depends on weather conditions; sightings cannot be guaranteed. Our team can check availability and book for you.
