A city-center activity at Full Steam Tromsø on Søndre Tollbodgate, held daily at 3:00 PM and lasting around 60 minutes. A Sámi coordinator dressed in traditional kofte attire shares the coastal Sámi way of life, their connection to the sea, fishing, hunting, and duodji handicrafts, as well as the history of the Sámi in Tromsø and the origin of the city's name.
During the presentation, view authentic coastal Sámi artifacts ranging from vintage fishing gear to household items. Hear about the impacts of the Norwegianization assimilation era, the meaning of the Northern Lights in Sámi mythology (known as Guovssahas), and listen to a live traditional joik performance.
Admission includes access to 3 exhibitions: the Seafaring Exhibition, the Sámi Exhibition, and the Northern Lights Photography Gallery. You are welcome to explore at your own pace after the talk.
