This trip is ideal for anyone who wants to experience a dog sled ride without driving it themselves. Leave Tromsø for a drive of about 45 minutes past fjord and mountain scenery to the kennel at Straumsbukta on Kvaløya island. Here you will be given a thermal suit and warm boots, then get to know the huskies before heading out.
An experienced musher does the driving while you sit back and enjoy the view, two people per sled. If you come alone, you will share a sled with another guest. The group is split in two: one half goes out on the sled while the other sits in the lavvu around the fire with snacks and hot drinks, then you swap. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried. If there is not enough snow but the weather allows, a wheeled cart will be used instead.
It suits families with children aged 7 and over and older travelers who are still in good health, but it is not recommended for pregnant women or anyone with back or heart problems. Children's suits are limited, so please bring warm clothing for your children. Both an early-morning and a midday departure are available, so let our team know which suits you.
