Disneyland Paris review: the happiest place in Europe

If you've made it to Paris, you have to visit Disneyland Paris, the only Disneyland in Europe. It is also a Disneyland with two theme parks to enjoy, and it has a unique character unlike any other Disneyland.

Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris has 2 big parks: Disneyland Park, built in 1992, and Walt Disney Studios Park, built more recently in 2002. Disneyland Park was modeled on the Disneyland parks in Florida and California.

A one-park ticket lets you enter only one park, and you can also buy a ticket that lets you go in and out of both parks, with no limit on the number of times you move between them, whenever it suits you. Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park have so many rides that you can't possibly try them all.

Besides the rides in Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park, there is also Disney Village, which feels like a community mall and is great for dining and shopping, with plenty of restaurants and stores to choose from. There are also six hotels.

You can buy park tickets and choose the number of days and the number of parks you want to enter. This means that if you choose only Disneyland Park, you won't be able to enter Walt Disney Studios Park, but if you choose both, you can enter both.

Disneyland Park

Disneyland Park is rather bigger than Walt Disney Studios Park and is divided into 5 zones, as follows:

The first zone is called Main Street USA, the street you walk along to reach the Disney castle. This zone has only shops and no rides, so it's perfect for buying souvenirs such as hats or clothing. There is also a barber shop, clothing stores and various candy shops, and a train station from which you can travel to all 5 zones.

Zone 2 is called Frontierland. It is built in a Wild West style, with the feel of a cowboy movie, and decorated with rock formations.

The must-ride attractions in Frontierland are Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Phantom Manor. There is also Thunder Mesa Riverboat Landing, a boat that takes you around the lake to see the scenery for about 10-15 minutes. There is also a shooting game, the Rustler Roundup Shootin' Gallery, and a playground for kids called Frontierland Playground, with climbing areas and small slides.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a roller coaster, but not a very scary one. It goes through some dark sections and climbs along rocky mountains, which form the backdrop of the zone. Disneyland Paris is the only place where the ride loops around an island in the middle of the water.

Another interesting ride is Phantom Manor, a haunted house theme that isn't too scary. It has a train that is not a roller coaster, with a few swinging moments, and beautiful lights, colors, sounds and graphics.

Zone 3 is called Adventureland. It has three main areas: Indiana Jones, which looks like a tropical rainforest, with the restaurant and shop area themed after The Lion King. Then there is a small Aladdin corner and Pirates of the Caribbean, with a pirate scene and Skull Island.

The standout ride in Adventureland is Pirates of the Caribbean.

Pirates of the Caribbean is a boat ride with dark rooms and a few drops into the water. It tells various stories and has a figure of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Zone 4 is called Fantasyland, the zone everyone has known since childhood. It is classic Disney, with no scary rides.

Here you'll find the princess castle, the castle of Sleeping Beauty. It is medium-sized with beautiful details and is surrounded by water. It has been called the most beautiful and unique of all the Disney castles. You can also go up to enjoy the view from the castle, see stained glass telling the story of Sleeping Beauty, and, not to be missed, a dragon hiding underground.

The must-see attractions in Fantasyland are the castle itself and the huge dragon hiding underground, called The Dragon's Lair, where you walk through to explore the castle and the dragon.

Another interesting attraction is Peter Pan's Flight, where you ride in a flying ship. It isn't scary like a roller coaster. It has some ups and downs, dark rooms and scenes from Peter Pan, so it feels like you are flying with Peter Pan.

There are also carousel-style rides such as Lancelot's Carousel, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and teacups you sit in like a carousel, called Mad Hatter's Tea Cups.

A signature Disney ride is It's a Small World, a boat ride where you see dolls dressed in national costumes from around the world.

Finally, there are walk-through attractions, such as the maze garden in Alice's Curious Labyrinth, and the rest are Meet Mickey Mouse and Princess Pavilion.

The last zone is called Discoveryland. Paris uses this name, while other parks call it Tomorrowland. It is a space-themed zone.

The must-ride attractions are Hyperspace Mountain, Star Tours: L'Aventure Continue and Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast.

There is also an interesting walk-through, Les Mystères du Nautilus, which exists only in Paris.

Hyperspace Mountain is a fast and intense roller coaster set in outer space, with glowing scenery and dark rooms.

Star Tours: L'Aventure Continue is a 3D simulator ride with beautiful graphics, and the cabin moves along with the movie on the screen. Nearby there is a Starport where you can take photos with characters from Star Wars.
Last is Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, a ride where you sit in a car and shoot lasers with a gun.

The second park at Disneyland Paris is Walt Disney Studios Park. It is small, but the rides are very interesting, focusing on movie and Pixar themes. There are 4 small zones here.

The must-ride attractions are Ratatouille: The Adventure, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Crush's Coaster.

When you walk in, you'll find the Front Lot, with Hollywood-style restaurants and shops and a statue of Disney's founder, Walt Disney.

Walking on to the left, you reach the Production Courtyard zone, which has a Stitch show and the following rides.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a drop ride with a haunted hotel storyline, and a 60-meter drop.

Next is the World of Pixar zone. The must-ride here is Crush's Coaster, an indoor roller coaster in the dark that is newer than Hyperspace Mountain. It has spinning seats, so you ride on the back of a turtle and go on an adventure under the deep sea with characters from Finding Nemo.

Last is Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, where you go on an adventure with the little rat and the chefs from Ratatouille. The ride simulates shrinking you down to the size of a rat and scurrying through Paris. It is a 4D ride, and you ride in a vehicle through beautifully decorated rooms.
