Santorini, the Island Believed to Have Been Created by the Gods

Guest writers

Today See You Again will take you to explore Santorini, an island whose beauty is recognized around the world.

Exploring the island

Exploring the north of Santorini is a real pleasure, and lets you experience the island's nature and local life first-hand. Visit the famous villages of Oia, Imerovigli, Firostefani and Fira Town, where the unique views look just like a postcard. Stroll along the cliff edge and admire the spotless white houses in distinctive Cycladic architecture, as well as the Blue Dome church.

Next, we drive up to the highest peak on the island (the Monastery of Profitis Ilias). Here you can see the whole island like a map spread out before you. Then we explore the Venetian castle of Pyrgos village, one of Santorini's most beautiful villages, set back from the cliffs, to get a feel for how local people used to live. We also stop at a local winery to taste the island's wines and learn about winemaking here.

We then head to the south of the island to visit the village of Megalochori and see traditional ways of life. Next we continue to the Venetian Lighthouse to enjoy a different view of the island's west coast and the cliffs, and then go to Red Beach, next to the archaeological site of prehistoric Akrotiri, for photos of this beautiful spot. After that we visit the fishing port of Vlichada, where the island's natural surroundings and forests are best preserved, and a local beach with impressive white sand walls that seem to rise straight out of the ocean.

The next beach is Perivolos, the island's black sand beach, full of cafés, restaurants and beach bars, where you can enjoy a drink or a snack, or even take a swim before we head back.
