Getting to Know Chania, Greece

Today See You Again introduces a town many people don't hear about much when talking about Greece. We can tell you this is a charming hidden gem that travelers fall in love with. So let's get to know Chania, on the island of Crete!

Chania is located on the island of Crete, the largest of the Greek islands and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. You can reach the island by ferry or by plane. Land at Chania International Airport and it takes only 25 minutes to get into town, a distance of just 14 km. Chania is one of the loveliest towns, with everything you need: romantic attractions, cozy accommodation, and, importantly, finding delicious food or local dishes is not difficult at all. In town, just a 5-minute walk will take you to a lighthouse, restaurants and various transport stations.

The shops and restaurants here are not packed side by side but tucked into the lanes and alleys, along with small guesthouses. You will see the way local people live and truly feel the warmth of the Cretan people. Chania is an old town, and it was the island's former capital until 1898. For this reason, Chania has been very well preserved, which is why so many visitors fall in love with it and keep coming back.

Chania has an international airport with flights serving you all year round. For getting into town, the bus is not the best option; a taxi suits you better, because the airport-to-town bus runs very infrequently, so check the timetable carefully if you choose it. Another interesting way to get to Chania on Crete is by ferry, which sails to and from Athens (Piraeus) every day and docks at Souda port, not far from Chania.
