Early in the morning, visit the open-air fish market Torget, a lively market where fishing boats deliver their fresh catch at dawn every day. Afterwards, take a walk to explore Bergenhus Fortress, Norway's best-preserved fortress, built in the 12th century and once the royal residence of Norwegian kings.
Explore the historic Bryggen area. These classic wooden buildings are celebrated as among the most beautiful row houses in the world and are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage cultural site. Standing 3 stories high and constructed of wood, the buildings are painted in white, red, yellow, and green. The gable of every building is decorated with wood carvings of deer heads, capricorns, dragon horses, and various figurines, which are unique trademarks of these historic structures. Today, these world heritage wooden buildings remain actively used, housing shops, galleries, souvenir stores, art studios, restaurants, and museums.
Additionally, nearby is a small market selling local products, flowers, art, and delicious seafood restaurants. Near sunset, take in the panoramic beauty of Bergen from above via the cable car.
